Adam Skumawitz | Football Proper Director

Upon returning home from playing professional soccer in the Norwegian Premier League, Adam founded Football Proper, Inc. in March 2005. His mission was clear: to provide professional level technical training emphasizing player development and an overall improved level of play.

Adam's soccer and teaching philosophy was refined while in Scandinavia but was created during his travels as an amateur soccer player. Prior to becoming a professional soccer player, Adam played on the Region IV and California State Olympic Development Teams and participated in the US U-20 National Team tryout pool, earned All-League and Team MVP honors while at Fallbrook High School, and captained his San Diego Surf club soccer team. From there he attended NCAA Division I Cornell University earning All-Ivy League honors and winning the league scoring title his senior year. Adam graduated from Cornell with a B.A. in Psychology in 2001 before signing his first professional contract with the Boston Bulldogs. After a short stint in Boston playing under now New England Revolution Head Coach Steve Nicol, Adam decided to head to Europe, the home of soccer, with hopes of playing in the European Premier League. He spent nearly two years in Germany playing for FC Gruen-Weiss Wolfen in the German Verbandsliga where he led his team in scoring and to a semi-final match in the country’s Open Cup (DeutscheFussballVerband Pokal Halbfinale). After proving he could score on the European stage, Adam was offered a contract to play for Aalesunds Fotball Klub (AaFK) of the Norwegian Premier League (Tippeligae). He played for AaFK for two seasons before a back injury ended his playing career and prompted his return to the U.S.

In two years as the Head Coach of the Temecula Valley Girls Varsity soccer team, Adam led the team to a CIF Title and a Southwestern League Championship with a two-year record of 42 wins, 4 losses, and 7 ties. His Temecula team broke the school record in shutouts each year notching a total of 38 clean sheets, while allowing a miserly two-year total of 18 goals against and also scoring 164 goals. In 2007, Adam was named the CIF-Southern Section, All-Valley, and All-Area Coach of the Year.
